Fort Causeway Puppy Pickup and Shipping Information

Pick Up Puppy at the Farm

This is, of course, always the best option for buying a new puppy. It allows the new owner to see the environment the puppy was raised in, meet the breeders, and meet the sire and dam. We encourage all new owners who live close enough to come out to the farm to visit the puppy starting when they are 5 weeks of age. And we encourage a farm pick up.

Farm Address: 606 US Highway 14A East Lovell, WY

We have also arranged to meet new owners within a close distance if we have a few puppies to deliver to a certain area.

Fly with the Puppy

Many airlines allow you to fly with a puppy in cabin. Some airlines have stricter size restrictions on the crate the puppy needs to fly in, max weight/height of the puppy. Most all require puppies to be 8 weeks old before they can fly.

There are a few things to consider:

  • There is a weight and size limit that differs with different airlines. These puppies are already getting quite big at the 8 wk age, which is the earliest we let them go. The puppy would need to fit comfortably in a soft sided carrier that meets the restrictions of the airline you will be flying on.
  • You will need a health certificate from the vet that we can provide, but we would need to know in time to get the certificate. The certificate needs ot be dated within 10 days of travel.
  • Consider the puppy's food and bathroom needs if the flight will be a long one, or if you will have long layover periods.

Have the Puppy Shipped Cargo by an Airline

Pet cargo shipping sounds rough, but we have found it to be a very humane way for pets to travel as long as precautions are taken. The following outlines information concerning the shipment of a pet by airline cargo.

Due to the fact that we live in a remote area, we also need to look into flight availability for each new owner as our nearest airports have limited flight options for puppies. Please contact us early on if you want your puppy shipped so we can look into the travel arrangements. We do not want to disappoint anyone, but we cannot guarantee shipping will be available.

Airline Information

We only ship via airlines who have reputable pet shipping programs. Shipping price is determined by the weight and the size of the crate. Distance or destination do not determine the cost. Other information:

  • Our nearest major airport is Logan International Airport in Billings, MT (Airport code: BIL). We are also looking into shipping out of YRA in Cody, WY.
  • Puppies need to be at least 8 wks old to fly and in good health.
  • You will need to purchase airline insurance to cover the cost of the puppy as the breeders are not responsible for the puppy once it leaves our hands at the airport.
  • Costs for shipping the puppy will be due from you by the time flight arrangements are made.
  • There are shipping crate requirements. We will provide the shipping crate. It will need to be marked and labeled in a certain way. The cost for the crate will be included in the balanced owed on the puppy and is due when the flight arrangements are made.
  • The puppy will need to be acclimated to his or her crate. The more notice we have, the better we can acclimate the puppy.
  • The puppy will need a Health Certificate. The cost for this will be included in the balanced owed on the puppy and will be due when shipping arrangements are made.

Cost to Ship a Puppy by Freight

It will be approximately $550 - $700 (in addition to the cost of the puppy) to ship a puppy cargo.

What Information We Will Need From You

  • First and second choice of airports. We will check for available flights to these, but cannot guarantee a shipment.
  • Full name that you have id for. You will need this to pick up your puppy at the airport. We will need your name for the paperwork.
  • Physical Address, not a PO Box.
  • Two Phone Numbers at which you can be reached.
  • The name and phone number of a secondary person who can pick up the puppy in case you are unable.
  • Name of the county you live in for Health Certificate.
  • We will need this information in order to make shipping arrangements.
  • It is advised to write the new owner's phone number on the outside of the puppy's shipping crate. We would plan to do this so would need a number that you do not mind having made public.
